We sat down with Aly McCalment, one of our talented planners to talk about their path into wedding planning, what a typical wedding day looks like at BASH, and their top advice for couples planning their big day. Q: What inspired you to become a wedding planner?
A: I’ve always loved weddings! From planning weddings for my Barbies as a little girl, to filling up Pinterest boards with wedding inspo, it’s safe to say I’ve always been obsessed. I didn’t know wedding planning could be a real career until middle school. When I found out, it’s all I’ve wanted to do since!
Q: What is the most unique or unexpected request you’ve ever received from a couple?
A: One wedding day, the bride’s off-the-shoulder strap on her dress broke off right after the ceremony. I offered to pin it back on, but she decided she didn’t want them on and asked me to cut them off instead. I don’t know if I’ve ever been more nervous than permanently altering someone’s wedding dress! (Spoiler alert: It looked amazing!)
Q: How do you handle last-minute challenges on the wedding day?
A: I love that each wedding day comes with its own surprises and challenges! I love thinking on my feet and coming up with creative solutions to solve the problems that arise.
Q: What tips do you have for couples trying to stick to a budget without compromising their vision?
A: Focus on what is important to you! Trendy Pinterest weddings are great, but you want to still love your wedding day [thirty] years from now. Find parts of your day that mean the most and focus on those, regardless of whether social media tells you something is trendy or not.
Q: How do you help couples make their wedding feel personal and unique to them?
A: I always start by asking couples what is important to them or what part of the day they are most looking forward to (besides getting married!). Then I work with them to ensure that those key elements are perfect. Once we’ve tackled the “must-haves”, we move onto the “nice to haves” and plan from there!

Q: What advice would you give to couples who are planning their wedding in 2025/26?
A: Remember why you’re getting married! Ultimately, your wedding day is a celebration of your love, with all of your closest family and friends. Everything else is just extra! Everyone you talk to will have an opinion of what you should do or how you should do something. Focus on what you and your partner want, and everything else will fall into place!
